Environmental Stewardship Award
In 2012, Future View Farms received the national award form the Pork Checkoff board for being one of the leaders in environmental stewardship among hog producers across the United States.
This video does a great job at giving an overview of the operation and a large portion of the environmental practices in place on our operation.
Pennsylvania No-Till Alliance
Future View has been a proud member of the PA No-Till alliance ever since its inception.
The alliance was formed by likeminded no-till farmers throughout the state in 2005, and the organizations mission is “To promote the successful application of no-till through shared ideas, experiences, education and new technology”
Jeff Frey has served on the board for years, and in the summer of 2022, was awarded the “No-Till Pioneer” award along side colleague Leroy Bupp, for recognition of farming for 50+ years with No-Till practices in Pennsylvania.
Cover Crops
After every fall harvest of either corn or soybeans, we plant a mixture of wheat, barley & rye into the soils to foster growth of a “cover crop” over the winter months so that there are always living roots in the soil all year long.
Production crops are then planted into the standing green cover in the spring.
Conservation Practices
Apart from cover crops, we have invested in installing waterways, field terraces, and CREP environmental buffer zones across a large portion of our acreage to minimize erosion, and promote better watershed health.
